This painting of Virginia Farragut (1824-1884), second wife of Admiral David Farragut (following the death of his first wife), and their son Loyall (1844-1916) is in the Club’s main lobby. In this painting, Loyall holds his grandfather George Farragut’s sword, which is also in the Club’s collection (displayed alongside this portrait and a small collection of Virginia Farragut’s jewelry). In the painting, there is a portrait of Admiral David Farragut in the background, a traditional motif for family portrait paintings from this era, signifying the busy father watching over his family, as well as the family’s devotion to their father.
