Label:
Lieutenant Francis Brownell served in the 11th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He received the Medal of Honor for his action as an Army private during the first days of the Civil War at the Marshall House in Alexandria, Virginia and was rewarded with a commission in the Regular Army, where he served as an officer for two years. Following the Civil War, he had a career in the Pension Office. He was a member of The Army and Navy Club.
