This portrait of General John “Jack” Pershing was given directly by Pershing to PFC Claude Thomas of Elkin, Kentucky, the man who fired the last shot in World War I. The gun he used was a “French 75.” The picture was given to The Army and Navy Club by Del and Kaye Burchfield, both USMC, in August 1993. They had received it from Elkin’s descendants.
