Prints & Drawings

of The Army and Navy Club

Now on view in The Eagle Grill

This exhibition brings together a special selection of the finest prints and drawings in The Army and Navy Club’s collection for the first time, offering a fresh perspective on our historic collection.

The Army and Navy Club is well known for its grand halls of historic military paintings. Our collection also includes a significant group of prints and drawings, which tell a different, but equally important story about our history and traditions.

While monumental military paintings commemorate and honor individual service and martial achievement, prints and drawings perform diverse functions, from documenting the battlefield in the days before photography, to communicating with the public, illustrating tactical combat strategy, encouraging recruitment, and influencing public opinion.

This exhibition brings together a special selection of the finest prints and drawings in The Army and Navy Club’s collection for the first time, offering a new perspective on our historic collection.

The project was developed by the Library Trust using our new online collection of artwork. Available to the public, The Army and Navy Club’s online collection includes high-resolution images of all our artworks and offers advanced search capabilities for exploring the art collection by a range of subjects. In the future, this will enable us to create unique thematic exhibits—Prints and Drawings is but the first of many.

Please consider supporting the Army and Navy Club Library Trust to help make future exhibitions like this possible.
