Restoring the Paxton Murals

The Work of Olin Conservation, Inc.

Wednesday, 21 June, 2017

6 - 7:30 p.m. | Main Dining Room

The Paxton murals in the Main Dining Room were installed by the artist in 1922. Charles and David Olin removed the murals for conservation during the 1984-1987 Clubhouse reconstruction. Their presentation will include before and after photographs of the murals, a discussion of the issues they encountered in conserving and re-installing the murals, and a discussion of other mural conservation projects by Olin Conservation, Inc. David has worked more recently on several other collections, including the Center of Military History, the city of Charleston, SC, the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, several Smithsonian galleries, and the Washington Cathedral. He has also worked closely with major artists like Chuck Close and Annie Leibovitz. Share our Club’s history with artisans who are a part of our history. The evening will begin with a special reception for members and invited guests.

Organized in partnership with the Army and Navy Club Special Events Committee.

This event is free of charge.
